Founded in 1894 by John Barbour in South Shields, Barbour as a brand is instantly associated with Great Britain, practical yet stylish design and a luxury lifestyle. Opening his first shop in the port of South Shields, Mr. Barbour was able to provide the seamen and sailors with waxed jackets to protect them from the worst of the weather, not quite as glamorous as Barbour is today!

However, the waxed jacket lives on and Barbour as a brand, now over 100 years old, has managed to cater to almost everyone when it comes to outerwear. From classic cut waxes to iconic quilted jackets, Barbour have got all the outerwear bases covered and nothing seems to be getting in the way of this heritage brand.

With the demand for Barbour increasing almost daily, the brand felt it was time to expand into something more luxurious and exclusive, so Barbour have joined forces with iconic British designer Alice Temperley, to create the first collection for their new division of outerwear and knitwear, Gold Label Barbour by Alice Temperley.

Alice Temperley is world renowned for her attention to detail, unrivalled craftsmanship and versatile, timeless pieces that flatter and last from season to season, all of which are key aspects in the Gold Label collaboration. The three items of knitwear and five pieces of outerwear all have a timeless and ageless feel to them which means that the Gold Label will appeal to women of all ages and never go out of style.

All of the pieces in this collection are named after locations around Britain such as the Oxford Coat and the Cornwall hooded cardigan, making this collaboration all the more British and gives each piece a sense of it being special and personal to the designer herself.

This collaboration consists of three pieces of chunky, cosy knitwear in shades of grey, black and oatmeal whilst the jackets are the real stars of the show.

Classic Barbour features like waxed cotton, quilt detailing or the signature Barbour zip-pull are integrated into Alice Temperley's designs to create jackets that are distinctively luxurious and unique.

This collaboration has also come at perfect timing for Alice Temperley, as they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary as a brand. "As we plan to celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2011, this collaboration comes at a significant time for our brand and offers our customers even more to choose from than ever before."
